PDF Metadata Remover
Remove standard document metadata such as title, author, creator and dates directly in your browser.
PDF files can contain document properties that are easy to overlook, including the original author, title, creating application and creation or modification dates. NeroTool's PDF Metadata Remover lets you inspect those standard fields and create a cleaned copy without intentionally uploading the selected PDF to a NeroTool processing server.
What PDF metadata can be removed?
The tool targets standard document information fields such as Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator, Producer, Creation Date and Modification Date. It also removes the document-level XMP metadata stream when the PDF exposes one through its catalog. These are common metadata locations, but removing them is not the same as forensic sanitization of every possible trace inside a PDF.
How to remove metadata from a PDF
- Choose a PDF or drag it into the drop area.
- Review the metadata values detected in the document.
- Click Remove Metadata to create a cleaned copy locally.
- Download the cleaned PDF and review it before sharing important documents.
Why remove PDF metadata?
Metadata can reveal a person's name, an organization, the software used to create a file, or dates associated with the document. Removing standard properties can be useful before publishing a PDF, sending a document to an external recipient, or sharing a file where unnecessary identifying information should not be exposed.
Metadata removal is not redaction
Removing metadata does not erase visible text or images. It does not automatically remove comments, attachments, hidden text, embedded-file metadata, image EXIF data, watermarks, digital signatures or every custom object that specialist PDF software may add. If a document contains sensitive content, inspect the visible pages and other embedded material separately.
Privacy and local processing
The PDF is read and rewritten in your browser with JavaScript. The selected document is not intentionally sent to a NeroTool processing server. The page loads its PDF library from the configured CDN, but the PDF data itself stays in the browser during the metadata-removal workflow.
Check the cleaned PDF before sharing
Open the downloaded file in your usual PDF viewer and check its document properties. For important or sensitive submissions, also review comments, attachments, forms, embedded files and visible content. Browser-based metadata removal is useful for common document properties, but it should not be treated as a guarantee that every hidden trace has been eliminated.
