NeroTool

PDF to Text Converter

Extract selectable text from a PDF and save it as a plain TXT file directly in your browser.

Extract text from a PDF without retyping it

A PDF can contain text that is selectable even though it is difficult to copy cleanly from the document. PDF to Text is useful when you need the written content for notes, search, editing, archiving or another text-based workflow.

How to convert PDF to text

  1. Choose a PDF or drag it onto the drop area.
  2. Click Extract Text and let the browser read the document page by page.
  3. Review the extracted text in the result box.
  4. Download the result as a TXT file when it looks correct.

What the converter keeps — and what it does not

The tool extracts text characters and separates PDF pages with clear page markers. It does not attempt to reproduce fonts, colors, images or the exact visual layout. Tables and multi-column documents may therefore read differently from the original page.

Text PDFs and scanned PDFs are different

If you can select a word with your PDF viewer, the document probably contains an accessible text layer and ordinary extraction can work. A scanned contract, receipt or photocopy may contain only page images. In that case, use an OCR workflow to recognize the characters before expecting editable text.

Check the result before reusing important text

Look for broken line wraps, headers repeated on every page, missing characters and reading-order problems in columns. For legal, financial or technical documents, compare important passages with the source PDF rather than assuming that a successful extraction is automatically error-free.

Browser-based and local

NeroTool is designed so this extraction can run in the browser without intentionally uploading the selected PDF to a NeroTool application server. The page may load its PDF.js library from a third-party CDN, but the document-processing step is performed locally by the browser.

If you need an editable document, see PDF to Word. If you need spreadsheet data, use PDF to Excel. For scanned pages, see the PDF OCR tool.

Frequently asked questions

Can PDF to Text extract text from every PDF?

It works best with PDFs that contain selectable text. Image-only scans need OCR rather than ordinary text extraction.

Does the tool preserve the original PDF layout?

The output is plain text, so visual layout, fonts, tables and exact positioning are not preserved. Page boundaries are kept clear.

Is my PDF uploaded to a NeroTool server?

The extraction workflow is designed to run in your browser; the selected PDF is not intentionally sent to a NeroTool processing server.
