NeroTool

Base64 Encoder & Decoder

Encode or decode UTF-8 text as Base64, with optional URL-safe output, directly in your browser.

How to encode and decode Base64

Paste UTF-8 text or a Base64 value, choose Encode or Decode, then copy the result. NeroTool processes the transformation locally in your browser.

Base64 and UTF-8 text

Base64 is designed to represent bytes as ASCII text. NeroTool encodes text as UTF-8 first, which means accented characters, symbols and other Unicode text can be handled consistently.

Base64 is encoding, not encryption

Base64 does not protect secrets. It is reversible and should not be used as a password-hiding or encryption mechanism. Use proper cryptography when confidentiality is required.

Standard and URL-safe Base64

Standard Base64 can contain plus and slash characters and may use padding. URL-safe Base64 replaces those characters and can omit padding, which is useful when the encoded value must travel through URL-oriented contexts.

Practical developer uses

Privacy and browser processing

The encoder and decoder run in the browser in this implementation. Your input does not need to be uploaded to a NeroTool processing server.

Frequently asked questions

What is Base64 used for?

Base64 represents binary data as text. It is commonly used when binary content needs to travel through text-oriented systems such as JSON, email or configuration files.

Can Base64 encode normal text?

Yes. NeroTool encodes UTF-8 text, so accented characters and other Unicode text are supported.

Does Base64 encrypt my data?

No. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption. Anyone with the encoded value can decode it.

Is my text uploaded?

The encoder and decoder process the input in your browser in this implementation. The text does not need to be uploaded to a NeroTool processing server.
