What does Find & Replace do?

Find and Replace searches a block of text for a word, phrase or pattern and substitutes the matches with new text. It is useful for correcting repeated wording, updating names, changing labels, cleaning copied content and making the same edit across many occurrences.

How to use the tool

1. Paste or type your text into the main text area.
2. Enter the exact word or phrase you want to find.
3. Enter the new text in the Replace with field.
4. Choose optional matching settings, then select Find & Replace.
5. Review the replacement count and copy the finished text when it is ready.

Match case and whole words

Use Match case when capitalization matters. With it enabled, Report and report are different matches. Whole word is useful when you want to replace a word without changing longer words that merely contain the same letters.

When regular expressions help

Regular expressions are useful when the text you need to find follows a pattern rather than one fixed phrase. For example, a pattern can target several date formats or a repeated structure. Because regex syntax is more powerful, test a pattern on a copy of important text before replacing a large document.

Review replacements before using the final text

A broad search term can match more text than expected, especially when whole-word or case-sensitive matching is disabled. Check the replacement count and scan the result before pasting it into a document, code file, email or content management system.
