How to trim an audio file

1. Add your audio file

Drop an MP3, WAV, OGG, M4A, AAC or FLAC file into the upload area. The file is prepared locally in your browser.

2. Set the start and end points

Move the two range controls or enter exact times in seconds. The selected interval is shown on the waveform and cannot extend beyond the source duration.

3. Preview the selection

Use Preview Selection to listen to the chosen section before exporting it.

4. Trim and download

Choose an output format, click Trim Audio and download the new clip. The original file remains unchanged.

What can you use an audio trimmer for?

Trimming is useful for removing silence, cutting a short section from a long recording, preparing a podcast excerpt, extracting a music sample for permitted uses, or creating a shorter voice recording.

Practical trimming tips

• Keep the original recording before trimming.
• Preview both the beginning and end of the selection to avoid cutting a word or musical note.
• Use the exact time fields when you need a precise cut.
• Choose WAV or FLAC when a lossless output is appropriate; use MP3 or M4A when compatibility and smaller files matter.
